What’s on board

  1. 1号車CAR 1
The view from the cab, approaching Sugamo at 60 km/h

    Drive Tokyo’s loop line

All 30 stations at real distances, from the driver’s seat. Signals, speed limits, checkpoints and a timetable that means it.

  2. 2号車CAR 2
The stop shot from above: 3 cm on the mark and 0.2 s on the dot, two S ranks

    Stop right on the mark

Every stop gets two ranks: STOP for how close your nose is to the mark, TIME for the clock. Go for double S.

  3. 3号車CAR 3
The title screen with today’s run from Takanawa Gateway

    A new run every day

The same three stops for everyone, and one go. Then see where you rank on Game Center (iPhone and iPad).

  4. 4号車CAR 4
    Pulling into Shin-Okubo at dusk

    Morning, dusk and night

Drive through sunshine, drizzle and rain while Tokyo lights up around you.

  5. 5号車CAR 5
The stamp book with five station stamps

    Collect all 30 stamps

Stop perfectly to stamp your book. New paint for your train unlocks as it fills up.

  6. 6号車CAR 6
The chase camera over the train’s roof near Shimbashi

    Feel every car behind you

Eleven cars of real braking: the brakes take a moment to bite, wheels slip in the rain, and the coffee on the dash remembers every jolt.

  7. 7号車CAR 7
A giant foot stamping down on the tracks ahead of the cab

    Expect the unexpected

Rare surprises wait somewhere on the line. We’ve said too much.

環状線 · 30駅 · the whole loop

Thirty stations. One loop.

Every hop is the real distance, so Nishi-Nippori to Nippori is a 500 m sprint and Shinagawa to Osaki is a proper 2 km run. Tap a station to see its sign.

ご案内 · before you board

Questions at the gate.

Everything you might ask the station staff, minus the queue.

Is Yamanote Rush free?

Yes. It’s free on the App Store and Google Play, with no ads and no in-app purchases. New paint for your train unlocks by driving, not by paying.

What can I play it on?

iPhone, iPad and Android. On an iPad the whole game scales up to fill the screen.

Does it play offline?

Yes. Drive the whole loop with no signal, like a train in a tunnel. It only goes online to post your daily run to the leaderboard, if you’re signed in, and it collects nothing: no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. The privacy policy is short.

How does scoring work?

Every stop gets two ranks, from S down to D. STOP is how close the train’s nose is to the mark (an S is under 30 cm) and TIME is how close you are to the timetable. Get both and it’s a double S.

What’s today’s run?

The same three stops for everyone each day, in that day’s weather and time, and only your first go counts. On iPhone and iPad you can see where you rank on Game Center.

Is it the real line?

It’s Tokyo’s loop line, with all 30 stations at their real distances, from a 500 m sprint between Nishi-Nippori and Nippori to the 2 km run from Shinagawa to Osaki. Yamanote Rush is an independent, unofficial game by Nashtendo, and isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by East Japan Railway Company.
